First Entry. . . Halloween costume for the little man!

So, here goes. . .my first entry. 3 months after I actually made this cute little costume. (I started this entry 2 months ago!)

I have an addiction to felt, so of course I needed to come up with a costume for my now 18 month old that could be made of felt. Why do I like felt? It's cheap, you don't need to sew it (unless you want to) and I like how it feels.
My son's name is Anton. I decided to transform him into a king this year for Halloween. I enjoy making crowns, so I figured this would be fun and relatively simple.
I spent less than $4.00 for the whole thing. (I found a black shirt and gray jeans in his hand-me-down stash.) Here is an abbreviated tutorial:

I basically first measured my little guy from the shoulder to mid-thigh, then the chest and last neck. Double your first measurement and cut the felt to size. I then marked the neck measurement once felt folded in half and cut a semi-circle for his peanut head. I'm not a major perfectionist, so it may look a little rough around the edges. (luckily felt is very soft) :)

I then used FABRI-TAC glue to fixate the gold detail around the neck.

I found a fleur de lis photo on line, blew it up and printed it...and then appliqued it to the center of the vest. This could easily be fixated with glue also.

I then added the fringe to the bottom edge. (again, I used the fabri-tac)

Last, I hand stitched ribbons on either side of the vest to cinch it shut...those didn't last very long...I would use velcro in the future. (I ran out of time)

The crown was made using a pattern off of this blog:

I used a little piece of black elastic which kept it very secure to his head. Feel free to message me for any questions. I'll try to get more detailed in future posts. Thanks to skiptomylou.org for the crown inspiration!
